First dive of the year 2021.
After a period of inactivity due to lockdowns, we immersed ourselves in Val di Sogno Malcesine (VR).
In this site we have been able to admire an excessively dense vegetation, the American Shrimp is king (Orconectes limosus).
Greenish in color, it has reddish-brown triangular spots on the dorsal area of the abdomen. Its average length varies from 6 ai 9 cm; the cases in which it exceeds these measures are rarer. It is therefore considered a small shrimp.
The edges of the rostrum are almost parallel, the apex is smooth and devoid of a median ridge with evident teeth.
The carapace is distinguished by a couple of post-orbital ridges. Sideways, in the front, it has a prominent spine and two or three smaller spines. The tips of the claws are hooked with black and orange bands. The abdomen is characterized by the typical reddish-brown bands on the dorsal part.
